The Relationship Between Cannabis and BMI
The journal Obesity, published a population-based data study that measured BMI of 786 adults between 18 and 74. The study found that adults who had consumed cannabis in the last 12 months were more likely to have a lower BMI, lower fasting insulin levels, and lower insulin resistance. The American Journal of Medicine also conducted a study of 4657 adults. 46% of those adults had never used marijuana, 12% were current users, and 42% had used marijuana in the past.
According to this study, current marijuana users’ BMIs were 7% lower on average and their waist circumference was 4% smaller on average
Their insulin levels were 16% lower and they exhibited 17% lower insulin resistance. The American Journal of Epidemiology published a survey of over 52,000 people and found that rates of obesity are almost a third lower among the demographic of cannabis users.
