Drink Responsibly: DIY Cannabis Infused Drinks

Cannabis is a very versatile plant. From topical salves and oils to smoking and vaping to cannabis infused foods and tinctures, there are a plethora of ways to enjoy cannabis. Edibles seem to be leading the way in the ever-increasing demand of today’s new legalized market and cannabis infused drinks are no exception. In addition to drink recipes for an excellent cannabis simple syrup and a weed-infused vodka, here are six tasty DIY recipes to quench your cannabis thirst.

Weed Infused Vodka

Ingredients:

1.16 grams of ground cannabis

250 milliliters of your choice of vodka

A one-liter heat-tolerant professional cream whipper

2 nitrous oxide chargers

A double boiler

Water

1 glass measuring cup large enough to hold 250 mL

Cheesecloth

Thermometer

Rubber band large enough to place around your glass measuring cup.

Method

Step 1

Pour alcohol and cannabis into the whipper.

Step 2

Attach the first nitrous charger to the whipper and release the gas.

Step 3

Repeat with the step 2 with the second nitrous charger.

Step 4

Allow the mixture to sit for 1 ½ minutes.

Step 5

Pour water into the lower part of the double boiler and heat to 200 degrees. **Check the temperature regularly with your thermometer to drink responsibily ensure the temperature does not exceed 200 degrees.

Step 6

Once the water in the lower part of the double boiler has reached the appropriate temperature, add the infused alcohol from the whipper to the top of the double boiler.

Step 7

Allow the mixture to simmer for 45 minutes in the double boiler. **Again, continue to monitor the temperature so as not to exceed 200 degrees.

Note: The mixture will reduce a bit. In order to maintain the same end product volume, add plain vodka back to the mixture to maintain 250 mL volume.

Step 8

Remove the mixture from the heat and set aside.

Step 9

Place cheesecloth over the top of the your glass measuring cup and secure with the rubber band.

Step 10

Pour your weed-infused alcohol over the cheesecloth to strain out the plant material.

Step 11

Add just enough vodka back into the remaining product in your measuring cup to bring the total amount back to 250 mL.

Step 12

Enjoy!

Cannabis Simple Syrup

Ingredients:

3 cups of water

3 cups of sugar

2 grams finely ground cannabis

2 tablespoons vegetable glycerin

1 quart saucepan with lid

Cheesecloth

Large glass bowl

Rubber band large enough to go around glass bowl

Method

Step 1

Combine water and sugar in your saucepan over low heat and stir until completely dissolved and brought to a boil.

Step 2

Stir in cannabis, cover, and allow the mixture to simmer on the lowest heat setting for 20 minutes.

Step 3

Add in the vegetable glycerin, re-cover, and allow to continue simmering for 5 more minutes, stirring every minute or so.

Step 4

Remove from the heat and set aside.

Step 5

Place the cheesecloth over your glass bowl and secure with a rubber band.

Step 6

Pour the mixture over the cheesecloth to strain out plant material.

Step 7

Allow the syrup to cool and use as needed.

Cannabis Infused Tea/ Coffee

Let’s start with something simple! This one is probably the easiest recipe to enjoy once you’ve made your cannabis simple syrup. Simply take a cup of your favorite tea, coffee, or cappuccino and add your syrup in place of sugar or honey! Stir and enjoy!

*Note- you can utilize your cannabis simple syrup as a replacement for sugar or honey in smoothies and other drinks as well!

Cannabis Infused Cherry Pineapple Lemonade

Makes 1.5 Quarts

Ingredients:

1 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice

½ cup pineapple juice 

2 tablespoons grenadine

½ cup cannabis simple syrup

4 cups water

Maraschino cherries

Method

Step 1

Combine lemon juice, pineapple juice, grenadine, simple syrup, and water in a pitcher. Stir until uniform.

Step 2

Serve over ice with maraschino cherries to taste!

Moscow Mule

Makes a Single Serving

Ingredients:

1 ounce lime juice

½ cup ginger beer

1 tablespoon cannabis simple syrup

2 ounces club soda

Method

Step 1

Drink responsiblyCombine all ingredients in a glass and stir well.

Note: Do not shake as you will cause all the carbonation to go flat.

Step 2

Serve with a slice of lime or ginger in a cold glass!

French 75

Makes a Single Serving

Ingredients:

1 ounce cannabis simple syrup

1 ounce lemon juice

1 ounce cannabis infused vodka

5 ounces champagne

Shaker

Ice

Method

Step 1

Combine simple syrup, lemon juice, and vodka in a shaker with ice.

Step 2

Shake hard for 10 seconds and strain into glass.

Step 3

Top with champagne and enjoy!

Lawnmower

Makes a Single Serving

Ingredients

10-15 cannabis leaves

4 large carrots

2 apples

2 inch piece of ginger

1 large lemon

2 ounces cannabis infused vodka

Juicer

Shaker

Ice

Method

Step 1

Use your juicer to juice the cannabis leave, carrots, apples, ginger, and lemon.

Step 2

Fill a shaker with ice and add 1 cup of the juiced mixture with 2 ounces of cannabis infused vodka. Shake until well mixed.

Step 3

Pour into a glass and enjoy while cold!

Bloody Mary

Makes a Single Serving

Ingredients:

4 ounces tomato juice

2 dashes Worcestershire sauce

Pinch of celery salt

Pinch of ground black pepper

3 dashes Tabasco sauce

1 squeeze lemon

1 teaspoon horseradish

2 ounces cannabis infused vodka

Olives and lemon wedge for garnish

Shaker

Ice

Method

Step 1

Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake until thoroughly mixed.


Step 2

Strain into a glass and garnish with olives and lemon. Enjoy!
